Siófok is the favorite travel destination of SZÉP card holders in 2025
According to data from Szallas.hu, Siófok is the most popular domestic destination among SZÉP cardholders so far in 2025, followed by Eger, Budapest, Balatonfüred and Gyula. In the competition among regions, the Balaton region leads, followed by Northern Hungary and Western Transdanubia.
Hotels are the most popular type of accommodation among SZÉP cardholders: 40 percent of bookings were for hotels. They also tend to book for longer periods: the proportion of one-night stays is 31.4% lower, while that of three-night bookings is 23.5% higher than for non-cardholders. They also prefer hotels during the summer season, compared to other guests who prefer apartments.
The basket value of SZÉP cardholders is also higher: the proportion of bookings over 170 thousand forints is 17 percent for them, while for other guests it is 13 percent. More than half of their trips are for two people, but 30 percent are with children.
It is important to note that the card provider may charge a one-time 15% fee for unused balances credited between March 20 and September 20, 2024, so it is worth using the limit by September 20.
