Hungarian products’ success in Lidl stores
Discounter chain Lidl operates 159 stores and 3 logistics centres in Hungary, and the company employs 3,700 people, playing a leading role not only in the discounter channel: Lidl’s sales are growing the most dynamically among retail chains in general. In March 2013 Lidl launched the ‘Lidl for Hungarian suppliers’ programme. Its goal is to cooperate with even more domestic suppliers and to add further Hungarian products to its assortment. After just one year 327 new Hungarian products appeared in Lidl stores and their sales grew by 17 percent; the team of domestic suppliers welcomed 26 new members. As for exporting Hungarian products, while last year 36 Hungarian suppliers’ 106 products were accessible in Lidl stores of 9 countries, this year already 178 products from 55 suppliers reached Lidl stores in 10 countries. Last year the company used its CSR programme to organise many activities to help undernourished children, aiding them with donations worth nearly HUF 60 million through Feed the Children Foundation. In 2014 Lidl starts revamping its stores, so that customers can do their daily shopping in a modern and comfortable environment
