DRS is successful, we are already returning 6 million items a day
In recent days, customers in Hungary have returned 6 million bottles, bottles and cans every day. During one of Hungary’s biggest changes in attitude, the number of returned packaging increased to 150 million pieces in just a few weeks.
In a couple of weeks, the amount donated by domestic customers to the charity indicated on the vending machines – children’s treatment – increased to 28 million forints, but the amount is increasing day by day
The most popular redemption method is a voucher that can be redeemed in a store or in a network of stores. Thanks to the redemption, customers have so far received HUF 6.2 billion back
In a unique way in Europe, the MOHU also provided a transfer to the bank account – so far, around HUF 1 billion have been requested back in this form in Hungary
MOHU pays a handling fee to the shops for each bottle, so that they operate the exchange properly on site, and ensure that the machines and their surroundings are kept clean
An increase in the number of DRS locations is expected
Unlike several international examples, where all stores are obliged to provide redemption (e.g. Romania), in Hungary only the largest stores (larger than 400 square meters) must join the redemption system, for other stores the option to join is voluntary
Environmental protection, and thus redemption, is a common interest of ours, and everyone has a role and responsibility in this
MOHU undertook to complete the minimum 90% redemption within 3 years
