The Shop! Ideation conference is a joint event organised by the Shop! Association and the IRDC (Industries Research and Development Council, USA), which was held in Providence (USA) on 20-21 October.

Participants included brand manufacturers, retailers, designers, agencies and POP manufacturers. As part of the introductory programme, they went on a guided store tour of the shops in the 140,000m² Providence Place shopping centre.

The conference program began at 16:00 with a thought-provoking opening presentation by IV Dickson, chief innovation officer of SageNet and Dina Townsend, chief sales officer of Mamava. They analysed the needs of new mothers in terms of retail media networks, well-being, care and relationships.

The keynote speakers emphasised that retail spaces are evolving from transactional environments into holistic destinations for support, education and wellbeing. As retail media networks transform how retailers engage with shoppers, they offer a unique opportunity to improve the in-store experience for new mothers, babies and caregivers.

Lisa Wynne, the founder of EcoScapes Sustainability Solutions LLC was the next speaker. She explained that sustainability doesn’t have to be scary. Reviewing the common fears experienced by retail professionals and suppliers, she outlined a forward-looking, clear and practical path forward.

By facing the circumstances with clarity, authenticity and courage, it is possible to prepare for changing legal requirements and achieve real results. The evening concluded with a networking reception, where attendees were treated to light refreshments and festive bites.

 

 

SNIPES – Retail Challenge

On 21 October conference participants rolled up their sleeves and experienced what happens when the brightest minds in retail come together to solve one of the industry’s most difficult in-store challenges.

The featured brand for the 2025 Retail Challenge was SNIPES USA, a leading sports shoe and streetwear retailer with more than 750 stores across Europe and the United States. Director of store operations Nicole Johnson and art director June Padilla asked the competing teams to create a completely new, fresh and innovative store concept. Participants were given six hours to collaborate, brainstorm and develop a design solution and presentation. The winning team will bring its design concept to life at the Shop! MarketPlace 2026 trade show, which will be held in New Orleans (USA) on 6-7 May.
