Private label products with Quality Food From Hungary marking
Thanks to changes in the Quality Food From Hungary (KMÉ) trademark system, retail chains’ own products can also be recognised with the marking. On 7 August the Tesco store in Budaörs was the host of the ceremony where 29 Tesco private label products manufactured by Eisberg Hungary Kft., Kalocsai Fűszerpaprika Zrt., Soós Tészta Kft., SOLE-MIZO ZRt., Tejmanufaktúra Kft. and Szegedi Paprika Fűszer- és Konzervgyártó Zrt. received the KMÉ trademark. Lajos Bognár, deputy secretary of state responsible for food chain safety at the Ministry of Agriculture, told that application to be included in the trademark system is now free but the conditions of joining are much stricter than before. Tesco Hungary CEO Nigel Jones said the recognition was not Tesco’s but its suppliers’. He added that they currently work with 1,500 Hungarian suppliers and some of them already sell their products to Tesco stores abroad, too. From Tesco Hungary’s more than 3,200 private label products about 50 percent are made in Hungary.
