This is how Hungarians paint their homes with their own hands, every five years, white
PPG Trilak mapped the painting habits of Hungarians, Czechs and Slovaks. White was unanimously the most popular color, and two-thirds of Hungarians pick up a paint roller at least every five years – and don’t let it pass on to anyone else.
Durability is one of the most important considerations for Hungarians when they buy paint, according to the latest PPG Trilak survey. When choosing the paint, these aspects were followed by sustainability and ease of application. It is interesting that neither the gender nor the age of the respondents changed this order, and in fact, the Czech and Slovak customers think the same way about this.
“We consider it very positive that sustainability is one of the most important purchase criteria among Hungarian customers, according to 69% of the respondents, it is important that the colors are sustainable. Helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals is a huge opportunity, and we are in a unique position to be the partner of their choice,”
said István Miavecz, director of PPG Trilak, regarding the results.
It is interesting that when looking at the individual age groups, the proportion of those who consider sustainability important is the highest among the 50-59-year-olds, 75% of them think so.
When choosing paint, the place of purchase is also an important issue, the majority of Hungarians go to DIY stores, but a third of respondents also like to shop in smaller stores. For almost every fifth respondent (19%), the distance is authoritative and they visit the nearest specialist store, regardless of its offer. This aspect applies mainly to younger age groups, a quarter of 18-39 year olds look for paint close to where they live. The place of purchase is of course also determined by the size of the residence, in large cities where several DIY stores are available, 70% choose these for shopping. In settlements with a population of less than 100,000, 56% look for department stores, and more people shop in smaller specialty stores. Among the participating countries, the popularity of department stores is so clear only in our country, smaller specialty stores are the most popular among Slovakian and Czech customers.
