The poppy industry may bring twenty billion HUF revenue
Hungary has the conditions to become a great power in the industrial poppy cultivation again; with a processing plant the sector could reach an annual 20 billion HUF in revenue, and growing could provide a supplemental income to tens of thousands of households – Pallós József Péter, Executive Director of the Gyógynövény Kutató Intézet Kft. (Medicinal Plants Research Institute Ltd.).
He noted that the buliding of the new processing plant would cost 5 billion HUF. The institute is looking for investor partners, and submitted an application for official licenses. The alkaloid production, because it is a basic drug substance has strict international rules. (MTI)
