Dairy farmers will have a hard time
Dairy farmers will receive their quota support in January, that is financed by the Hungarian budget and is 6 HUF per liter, which is almost a third lower than the 8.3 HUF quota support of 2009. Thus, 3-4 billion less money flows into the dairy sector than a year ago.
Now the big question is how the crisis hit Hungarian farms to be supported. Hungary does not use its potentials for a long time: Hungary could produce 2 billion liters of milk with the permission and support of the union, but we can only produce 1.3 to 1.5 billion liters. The number of cows decreased by tens of thousands in the last few years, while the import ratio of milk and dairy products increased to 20-50 percent. The Hungarian pastures are underused, dairies have been depleted, thousands of jobs have been lost, due to the decline in milk production – reports szabadfold.hu.
