In a bad mood
‘I am sorry to be so unlucky that I earned recognition for Hungary for which 2,400 chefs competed from all over the world. I would rather remain a simple chef who respects his profession and his colleagues’ – said master chef Károly Varga in an interview after achieving great results at the Culinary World Cup in Luxembourg. He told our magazine that he was annoyed by that fact that some used the anonymity of the Internet to ridicule and berate him and what he achieved. He is of the opinion that all competitions are important for the development of chefs and the profession. His view is that young chefs in both ‘camps’ of the divided Hungarian culinary world are equally good. Károly Varga is convinced that Bocuse d’Or was like Formula 1: the difference between participants is mainly created by the money invested into their participation.
