Consumer sentiment deteriorated in the euro area in April
In April, instead of the expected improvement, consumer sentiment in the euro area deteriorated on the basis of a survey published by the European Commission’s Economic and Financial Directorate on Tuesday.
Based on preliminary data of DG ECFIN (Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs), in April the consumer sentiment index declined by 0.7 points in the euro area, to minus 7.9 points from the minus 7.2 points of March. The market expected a modest improvement of minus 7 points in April.
In the European Union, the consumer sentiment index fell by 0.6 points to minus 7.7 points, from the 7.1 points of March. (MTI)
