The trade balance deteriorated
In September 2008, according to first estimates of Central Statistic Office, exports amounted to HUF 1,612 billion (EUR 6,724 million), while the value of imports reached HUF 1,576 billion (EUR 6,583 million).
The Euro value of exports increased by
9, that of imports rose by 11 percent over the equivalent month of
the preceding year, which means in forint terms – due to the
strengthening of our currency – an improvement of 3 and 4 percent,
respectively. In September, the trade balance showed a surplus of HUF
36 billion (EUR 141 million), the balance deteriorated by HUF 21
billion (EUR 102 million) compared to the same month of 2007. The
share of the European Union Member States was 78 percent in exports
and 69 percent in imports.
Over the course of January–September
2008, the value of exports was HUF 13,878 billion (EUR 55,929
million), while that of imports totalled up to HUF 13,832 billion
(EUR 55,763 million) according to preliminary results. In Euro terms,
exports grew by 11, while imports by 10 percent. The trade balance
showed a surplus of HUF 47 billion (EUR 166 million), which means an
improvement of HUF 100 billion (EUR 381 million) as compared to the
deficit of HUF 53 billion (EUR 215 million) in the same period of the
previous year.
