Food prices also rose the most in Romania
In January, the annual inflation in Romania decreased by 1.3 percentage points to 15.1 percent from 16.4 percent in December last year, the national statistical institute (INS) announced on Tuesday.
Compared to last December, consumer prices rose by 0.3 percent in January.
In the last 12 months, the average inflation was 14.3 percent. Food prices rose the most, by an average of 22.47 percent, while non-food products rose by 11.88 percent and services by 10.27 percent.
According to INS data, the price of sugar rose the most, by 63.37 percent. In January, butter cost 47 percent more than a year earlier, eggs 33.72, milk 34.48, and cooking oil 34.35 percent. The price of natural gas increased by 27.79 percent and that of electricity by 21.23 percent in one year.
