The sale of energy drinks to minors has been banned in Romania
In Romania, the House of Representatives voted with a large majority on Tuesday the draft law that prohibits the sale of energy drinks to minors.
According to the law, it will be forbidden to sell drinks containing at least two of caffeine, taurine, carnitine, guarana, glucuronolactone, or other compounds that stimulate the central nervous system to those under the age of 18.
The law also extends the ban to vending machines and online commerce, as well as to health and educational institutions. The law also prohibits the sale and advertising of energy drinks within one kilometer of hospitals and schools.
Violation of the regulations is considered a violation, which can be punished with a fine of between 25,000 and 100,000 lei (1.9 – 7.8 million forints) and the suspension of commercial activity for one to two months.
The proposal put forward last fall by the lawmakers of the National Liberal Party (PNL), which participates in the government coalition, was supported by 238 representatives, one opposed, and 12 abstained.
