Annual inflation in Romania fell to 5.9 percent in April
Annual inflation in Romania fell to 5.9 percent in April, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Tuesday.
In March, the annual inflation rate was 6.6 percent. In April, the price of services was 10.05 percent higher than a year earlier. Non-food products rose in price by 7.17 percent, and food, beverages and tobacco by 2.07 percent. The tariff for postal services increased the most, by 26.25 percent. Detergents rose by 25.64, medicines by 23.86, utility services by 16.49, health services by 13.67, canned fruit by 10.78, and beef by 9.25 percent. Wheat flour (30 percent), cornmeal (28 percent), butter (23.3 percent) and cooking oil (22.6 percent) showed the biggest price reductions. Compared to March, consumer prices in Romania rose by 0.08 percent. Food prices rose by 0.37 percent, services by 0.63 percent, while the price of non-food products fell by 0.35 percent.
