Annual inflation in Romania rose to 5.14 percent in December
The annual inflation rate in Romania rose to 5.14 percent in December, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Tuesday.
In November, consumer prices in Romania were 5.11 percent higher on average than a year earlier.
In December, food prices rose by 5.09 percent year-on-year, non-food products by 4.38 percent, and services by 7.10 percent.
The highest price increases occurred in postal services (17.82 percent), margarine (17.41 percent), fresh fruit (13.75 percent), detergents (12.04 percent), vegetables and canned vegetables (11.40 percent), and water, sewerage and garbage collection (10.97 percent).
The prices of natural gas (10.55 percent), butter (9.91 percent), sugar (7.30 percent) and corn grits (5.07 percent) decreased the most.
The consumer price index increased by 0.29 percent compared to November.
In 2024, the average annual inflation rate in Romania was 5.59 percent. Food prices increased by 3.56 percent, non-food products by 5.76 percent and services by 8.93 percent compared to 2023.
