Inflation in Romania slowed to 4.95 percent in January
The annual inflation rate in Romania fell to 4.95 percent in January, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Friday.
In December, the consumer price index was 5.14 percent higher than a year earlier.
In January, food prices increased by an average of 4.54 percent compared to the same period in 2024, non-food products by 4.60 percent and services by 6.54 percent.
In annual comparison, the highest increases were recorded for margarine (19.52 percent), postal services (19.14 percent), water supply and garbage collection (12.41 percent), detergents (11.97 percent), beauty services (11.45 percent) and fresh fruit (11.05 percent). At the same time, the prices of butter (11.36 percent), natural gas (8.32 percent), sugar (6.57 percent), telephone services (5.03) and wheat flour (2.61 percent) decreased.
