At the moment, there is no sign of the dumping of cheap food in Romanian and Bulgarian markets which took place in Hungary after accession to the EU in 2004. However, Romanian and Bulgarian food producers will also have to face this problem soon. At that time, enormous quantities of dairy products, canned food and beer arrived from the EU. Now – according to estimates by the National Association of the Food Processing Industry – we should expect a dumping of cheap Romanian products on the Hungarian market. For the time being, Hungarian agriculture is better prepared than that of the new EU states. Romanian agriculture is suffering from a lack of investment at the moment.
