Romanian farmers call for “the conditions for their survival” before extending the duty of Ukrainian products
In an open letter, the Association for Agriculture and Cooperation (AAC) is urged to create the “survival conditions” of EU farmers before extending the duty of Ukrainian products, said agrointel.ro, which specializes in agricultural news and analysis.
In a document addressed to the Romanian head of state, the prime minister and the minister of agriculture, the AAC, which brings together three national farmers’ organizations, demanded that the interests of Romanian farmers be asserted at the upcoming meeting of Agrifish (the agricultural and fisheries council of the European Union member states) in Brussels, where it is expected that the extending the duty-free status of Ukrainian products is also on the agenda. According to the Romanian Farmers’ Association, a European system should be developed by the end of April that identifies the destination of all imported Ukrainian agricultural products before entering the EU. According to AAC, measurements at the time of entry and exit must be guaranteed that Ukrainian products have not remained on the route.
The AAC import threshold requires all agricultural products based on the average of 2021-22
You want the EU to not allow imports, only transit for Ukrainian goods, and the product depart is checked with a real-time electronic customs lock, and GPS should follow the possible departure of the shipment from the designated route or the vehicle’s unjustified stopping.
According to the Association representing the interests of Romanian farmers, any Member State, by notifying the EU authorities, must be granted the right to automatically impose a “self -defense clause” if it finds that owners or suppliers of agricultural products passing through its territory violate the regulations. The Romanian leaders will be burdened by the responsibility of the strengthening of Romanian farmers if they do not enforce their demands in the open letter in Brussels. According to the Romanian Farmers’ Association, the next phase of protesting will be when dissatisfied farmers travel from the majority of EU Member States to Brussels to paralyze the operation of EU institutions.
