Rögös túró – The Milk Product Council has once again conducted a comprehensive research
In 2019, Rögös túró was recognized and registered as a traditional special food by the European Union. The Tej Product Council launched a two-year marketing campaign in January 2022 in order to promote the recognition of Rögös túró as a “Traditional Special Product”.
In order to learn about the effectiveness of the marketing campaign and changes in curd consumption habits, the Milk Product Council surveyed the market again in December 2023 after the fall of 2022.
The research is also extremely interesting because we know that in the last two years, the consumption of cottage cheese has suffered a lot due to the economic effects on the dairy sector from outside. Cottage cheese is among the first dairy products that are easily left out of the customer’s basket in an inflationary environment (if fewer cottage cheese cakes are made in homes at Easter or Christmas, it will quickly show up in the statistics).
By 2023, the amount of cottage cheese sold domestically fell by more than 10%, which was induced by a significant increase in production costs. Statistics show that every second kg of cow’s curd is now sold as Rögös túró, which is also recognized by the EU.
