Ski tourism is in great trouble
The past month was unusually warm not only here, but also in the Alps, where the traditionally cold and snow-covered landscape has already been replaced by spring green grass. Mild weather and low snow levels pose serious challenges to the ski tourism industry, especially in alpine regions. As a result of global warming, such extreme weather events are occurring more and more often, and these phenomena affect not only nature, but also ski tourism.
The lack of snow and mild temperatures are closely related to climate change, which also affects Alpine ski tourism. The Austrian ski slopes are already looking like it’s Easter, and in many areas the operations had to be reduced or even the slopes were closed. Due to the mild weather, the amount of snow has decreased significantly, and this poses a serious risk to places where ski tourism is an important economic factor.
