Small butcher shops receive extraordinary support
The government is subsidizing small butcher shops with four and a half billion forints, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy announced.
The minister drew attention to the fact that despite the energy crisis and the difficult economic conditions caused by the Russo-Ukrainian war and the failed Brussels sanctions, the government is still committed to supporting the Hungarian countryside and small towns. The Ministry of Agriculture is aware of the difficulties affecting retail trade, whether it is the effects of energy costs or sanctioned inflation, which is why the ministry is constantly investigating the possibilities that can help the players in the sector, he added.
István Nagy also touched on the fact that making basic services available at a higher quality and quantity will greatly increase the population retention power of small settlements
Among these, access to food plays an important role. This is ensured by the support of butcher shops operating as micro-enterprises, with the help of which it is possible to preserve these shops even in the face of current economic challenges. Stakeholders will be able to apply for a total of HUF 4.5 billion at the beginning of the year. According to the ministry’s plans, more than a thousand butcher shops can benefit from a subsidy of up to HUF 3 million per shop – the minister emphasized.
He explained that small butcher shops can create short supply chains and contribute to the realization and maintenance of food security
They also provide jobs for the people living there. These commercial units also ensure the survival of our country’s traditional, diverse, regional flavors and cuisine. The existence of these shops also forms the basis of the population retention power of the countryside and especially small settlements, so their support is significant from a social and demographic point of view, the head of the agricultural ministry emphasized.
