Extraordinary consumer protection inspections are being launched at food courier companies
The Ministry of National Economy, which is responsible for consumer protection, is launching an extraordinary consumer protection investigation at the largest food courier companies, Márton Nagy’s ministry announced. The measure is being taken because consumer complaints related to the activities of food couriers have increased in recent weeks, affecting all major market players, including Wolt and Foodora.
According to the ministry’s announcement, consumers reported the following problems with the services of food couriers:
- Failure to meet delivery deadlines, meals arrive with a significant delay.
- Unclear or incorrect display of prices.
- Problems related to the quality of the delivery, such as the condition of the food not being suitable.Focus areas of the study
The government agency will focus on four main areas during the investigation:
- The quality and condition of the delivered food – they check whether the food has cooled, spilled, spilled, shaken or soaked during transport.
Adherence to the delivery time – they check how late the order arrives. - Pricing issues – the charging of delivery fees and service fees will be reviewed.
- Ensuring compensation – they check whether companies undertake compensation in the event of damage and whether consumers receive a refund of the purchase price.
- Extensive monitoring of companies’ information obligations
The inspection also covers the review of the information obligations contained in the company’s website and general terms and conditions. This includes how clearly and in detail consumers are informed about the terms of service and what options they have in the event of a grievance.
