An exceptionally good winter season was concluded in the Slovak High Tatras
Accommodation providers in the Slovak High Tatras have had the best winter season in the past few years, with the number of domestic guests breaking a two-decade record, the Slovak public service news agency TASR reported, citing statistical data.
According to timely statistical data published by the Slovak High Tatras Regional Tourism Organization (OOCR), in the winter season from the beginning of December last year to the end of March this year, the number of overnight stays in accommodation facilities in the Slovak part of the high mountains generally exceeded the level before the coronavirus pandemic, i.e. 2019, for the first time.
The number of domestic visitors was the highest in the past two decades.
“Despite the changeable weather, the Easter period also proved to be successful. The 2024/2025 season, which lasted from December to the end of March, brought several surprises,” Lucia Blasková, the executive director of OOCR, told the Slovak news agency regarding the data.
She added:
December was traditionally the strongest month in terms of attendance, thanks to which we managed to show good numbers even in the relatively weaker March.
She explained that this season, domestic visitors accounted for the vast majority of hotel guests; their number exceeded 200,000, which represents a 5.3 percent increase year-on-year.
