ALDI entertains you with a scary short film this Halloween
ALDI is celebrating Halloween this year with a truly special production: the company has created a self-produced, Hungarian, entertaining and spectacular short film, in which characters well-known from the discount chain’s social media channels appear at night, locked in an ALDI store.
 ALDI has the most TikTok followers among large grocery chains, with more than 270,000 following the brand’s cheerful, humorous content on social media. This year, for Halloween, the chain has created a “terribly funny” longer-than-usual film that builds on the humorous and self-reflexive content.

The characters of the short film are well-known figures from the ALDI TikTok universe: Eszter (Eszter Veress, 1st Lady-in-waiting of Miss World Hungary), Jürgen (Csaba Kenessey) and Jenő (Jenő Kiss, world bodybuilding champion) now find themselves in a horror parody, waking up chained in a dark ALDI store. This is where the story begins, which simultaneously evokes classic horror films and brings the light, playful atmosphere typical of ALDI.
The work was shot in a cinematic visual environment, so it goes beyond a traditional advertisement or a short TikTok video not only in its atmosphere, but also visually. The shooting took place on October 21, from 6 pm to 6:30 am the next day in the ALDI store at Kondorosi út 6 in Budapest.
“As with most of our campaigns and communication platforms, we wanted to break away from the usual and stereotypical commercials and videos and create something that is new and entertaining – but not only for followers of food chains. The Halloween film is funny, spectacular and unique at the same time – exactly what the ALDI audience expects. Despite the night shooting, the production was made with enthusiasm, creativity and close teamwork – we trust that this will come across on the screen”

The short film was produced by ALDI and its agency, DEEP Creative Collective, and directed by Marcell Belső. The two companies built the ALDI TikTok universe together.
“Eszter, Jürgen and Jenő are already well-known and popular characters, which is both an ease and a challenge. It’s like filming a new season of a popular series – we have to stay true to the characters and the expectations of the viewers, but there has to be a big twist. So with cinematographer Gábor Szabó Kovács, we thought of taking the characters everyone knows and loves and throwing them into a totally unexpected, cinematic environment”
– described the project by Marcell Belső. “The story and the visual atmosphere were inspired by films that I hope everyone will recognize. The nighttime atmosphere of the shoot, the tight time frame and working in the dark all gave the production extra excitement.”
ALDI’s goal with the film is to create unique, memorable and community-building content – something that everyone will talk about on Halloween. The company is confident that viewers will enjoy the short film as much as the creative team enjoyed filming it.
