Record amount of ham sold at Easter: Lidl sales increased by nearly 20 percent last year
Lidl Hungary’s data shows a dynamic expansion in demand for Easter ham: in 2025, sales volume exceeded the previous year by nearly 20 percent. During the holiday season, domestic households purchased a total of more than 875 tons of Easter ham in the chain’s stores, which confirms the category’s continued popularity, as well as its favorable prices and excellent quality.
For Hungarian families, Easter is the most important holiday after Christmas, which is also clearly confirmed by the chain’s data. During the holiday season leading up to Easter, Lidl stores typically sell one and a half times as much meat as during an average period, but demand for horseradish, a classic addition to the holiday table, also really jumps at this time, as nearly 40 percent of the annual horseradish turnover can be attributed to this period. The department store chain places particular emphasis on helping Hungarian families prepare for the holiday with a wide selection and favorable prices, so this year it is preparing for Easter with a rich selection. Customers can choose from 16 types of ham, eight types of cakes, and more than 80 types of Easter sweets from the department store chain’s range.

In 2025, more than 875 tons of Easter ham were added to our customers’ baskets during the holiday period, which represents an increase of nearly 20 percent compared to the previous year’s result. All this clearly shows that ham remains one of the most important dishes on the Easter table for Hungarian households, and thanks to the low prices and our carefully compiled, quality offer, customers’ trust in Lidl is unbroken. Our goal is to complete the festive table of Hungarian people and families with premium and traditional products that serve all needs through our purchasing strategy this year as well”

The offer is wide this year at Lidl, with products made from both traditional pork and turkey meat on the shelves. The top three products most in demand by customers are smoked-cooked tied shoulder, Kőröshegyi ham and tied thigh ham. Last year, the range was expanded with Pikok Pure smoked ribs, and this year Pikok Pure sliced heart ham is also available in the range. Easter hams can be purchased from March 26 in a variety of packaging and price categories between 1,599 and 4,490 HUF/kg.
In addition to traditional cakes, Lidl’s bakery range this year will be expanded with specialties such as butter-honey round cake with almond spread, raisin braided cake or white chocolate-raspberry roll. Among the holiday sweets, the department store chain’s own-brand Favorina product line offers a variety of chocolate bunnies, chocolate eggs and other Easter delicacies, which are complemented by seasonal sweets from renowned manufacturers, ensuring a wide selection so that everyone can find their favorite in their holiday basket.
Fresh vegetables for holiday dishes
Fresh vegetables that form the basis of the Easter table – including lettuce, radishes and spring onions – also receive special attention in the offer and await customers in a wide selection, excellent quality and value for money. The great prices and weekly promotions make it even easier for Hungarian families to buy quality food.

In addition to culinary delights, Easter preparations at Lidl are also about shared moments. The wide food selection is complemented by a wide selection of decorations and games, which also offers children meaningful entertainment for the days spent at home.
