In Spain, annual consumer price inflation fell to 2.2 percent in April, in line with preliminary estimates, the lowest since October last year, from 2.3 percent in March, according to final data released by the Spanish statistics office (Instituto Nacional de Estadística – INE) on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Spanish statistics office, the slowdown in annual inflation in April was mainly due to developments in housing and utility prices, electricity, and gas and fuel prices.
The annual increase in housing and utility prices slowed to 4.2 percent from 5.7 percent in March, while the price of transport services fell by 1.6 percent after a 0.9 percent decrease in the previous month.
The price of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased at a slower pace, by 2.0 percent, after a 2.4 percent increase in the previous month. The increase in the price of alcohol and tobacco products also moderated, from 3.1 percent in the previous month to 2.6 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.6 percent in April, in line with the preliminary estimate, following a 0.1 percent increase in March.
Annual core inflation, excluding food and energy prices, accelerated to 2.4 percent in April from 2.0 percent in the previous month, the lowest level since November 2021.
