Spain records record number of foreign tourists in 2025
Spain welcomed 96.7 million foreign tourists last year, 3.2 percent more than in 2024, setting a record for the third consecutive year, the Spanish statistics agency (INE) said on Tuesday.
According to the agency’s annual report, the United Kingdom continued to be the top destination for tourists, with 19.1 million, while 12.8 million tourists from France and 12 million from Germany chose the southern European country as their travel destination.
The region most visited by foreigners is Catalonia, located in the northeast of the country was, with more than 20 million tourists, followed by the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, both with around 15.7 million visitors.
The INE data revealed that last year there was also a record in tourism revenue, with more than 134.7 billion euros, which represents a 6.8 percent increase compared to the previous year.
In terms of tourism spending, the British also lead the list with 23.6 billion euros, followed by the Germans with 15.83 billion euros, followed by the French with 11.61 billion euros.
According to a previous forecast by Tourism Minister Jordi Hereu, the number of tourists visiting Spain could exceed 100 million in 2026.
