Lidl broke a record
Lidl donated more food and other non-food products than ever before, totaling more than HUF 3 billion, which is by far the highest among the domestic discount chains. The company already supports more than 110,000 needy Hungarians on a monthly basis through its cooperating partners. As a market-leading food retail chain, the goal of the supermarket chain is to help those in need as much as possible.
Last year, Lidl Hungary further expanded the number of its stores that actively participate in daily food rescue, so that in the case of almost all Lidl stores, food that has been withdrawn from sale but is still suitable for human consumption is delivered directly from the stores to the needy through its cooperating partners. In addition to its legal obligations, the company also donates leftover vegetables and fruits as well as baked goods to needy Hungarian families, which means a great deal of help to them. Moreover, thanks to the daily food rescue, the food donations always reach the local communities, so Lidl’s donations reach every county in the country.
“As the engine of the Hungarian economy, we are constantly working to be partners with Hungarian families in all areas of our operations, to support the needy and to contribute to the success of the domestic economy. In our 2022 economic year, we have already delivered food donations, clothes, cleaning and hygiene products worth more than HUF 3 billion to the needy and contributed to the development of domestic healthcare, which is by far the highest among domestic discount chains. Thanks to our charitable partners, we already provide assistance to more than 110,000 needy people on a monthly basis.”
– pointed out Judit Tőzsér, head of corporate communications at Lidl Hungary.
