Employment in the European Union plummeted in the second quarter
The second quarter saw the largest decline in employment ever recorded in both the euro area and the EU, according to a report by Eurostat, the European Union’s statistical office, published on Tuesday.
The number of employees fell by 2.9 percent in the euro area and by 2.7 percent in the European Union, compared with the previous quarter, the largest decline in both regions since the beginning of the register in 1995.
Compared to a year earlier, employment in both regions fell the most in the second quarter, by 3.1 percent in the euro area and 2.9 percent in the EU. (MTI)
