Retail sales in the euro area fell with a record high in April
Retail sales in the euro area declined less than expected, but still at record levels, in April, when virtually all commodity sales fell as a result of severe restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The European Union’s statistical office (Eurostat) said on Thursday that seasonally adjusted data showed a 11.7 percent drop in retail sales in the 19-member eurozone and a 19.6 percent year-on-year decline in retail sales. Analysts expected even worse numbers, down 15.0 percent and 22.3 percent, respectively. (MTI)
