A record amount of donations was collected in the Food Bank’s charity campaign.
A record amount of more than 18 million forints was collected from the amount offered for Nestlé products sold in Tesco in the charity campaign organized for those in need, the Hungarian Food Bank Association informed MTI on Thursday.
According to the announcement, during the campaign called Let’s put help together!, customers put Nestlé products worth 919 million forints into their baskets in Tesco stores between September 25 and October 8. In keeping with its long-standing tradition, Nestlé supports the work of the Hungarian Food Bank Association with one percent of the retail price of the products purchased, and Tesco doubles the amount raised, bringing the support to over 18 million forints.
The collected donations are mainly spent on covering logistics costs, food rescue, and putting together food packages, which are then delivered to those in need. The amount can be used to make almost 150 thousand food packages, which typically contain expired, defective, but high-quality, perfectly fit for consumption products that the organization collects from supermarkets and food manufacturers on a daily basis.
– the press release reads.
András Nagygyörgy, the Food Bank’s director of external relations, emphasized that food rescue is one of the most effective ways to help those in need. The donations will enable the rescue and delivery of food worth approximately 600 million forints.
