Global food prices near record
According to the calculations of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); food prices are close to the historic peak of the food crisis of 2008.
According to the datas of FAO released on Wednesday; the global food price index increased to 205.44 points in November. The index rose by 3.5 percent over one month to its 28-month peak, and is only 8 points lower than its historical record, that was reached in June 2008. The maximum extent of increase occurred in the price of grain and vegetable oil rents, mainly due to bad weather – reports ProfitLine.hu.
