Five times the national average of Mexican food is consumed in Debrecen, while Szeged has become the capital of Indian food, with eight times the average being ordered here – foodora’s own data revealed. The food ordering portal looked at the regional differences in Hungarians’ eating habits. It turned out that in addition to more exotic dishes, traditional Sunday lunch items are also popular, while many people order meat soup, while significantly more people make fried meat at home.

Nowadays, you can try the cuisine of many countries with a few clicks, and you can find everything from more exotic dishes to homemade dishes on online food ordering portals. foodora has now looked at which part of the country has the most popular cuisine based on the orders received.

Meat-free dishes, for example, are popular in several parts of the country. Székesfehérvár and Szeged are neck and neck in terms of population when it comes to vegan dishes, but Budapest is the absolute gold medalist. Unlike the capital, Szekszárd thanks, but does not ask for a vegetarian diet. Salads are ordered in large quantities as a side dish in Győr and Szombathely.

There are regions that, based on their orders, are particularly fond of the specialties of a different nation. For example, in Szeged, eight times the national average is ordered for Indian food, while in Debrecen, five times the national average is ordered for Mexican food. In the case of sushi, the competition is already fiercer, with Székesfehérvár and Kaposvár leading the way in terms of population. In addition to more exotic dishes, many people continue to seek out Italian specialties, with Bolognese clearly the favorite, with five times as many Bolognese pasta orders placed than carbonara or lasagna. In the countryside, this dish is most popular in Pécs, while Győr leads the way in spaghetti carbonara.

Of course, Hungarian cuisine is also popular: most people search for it in Szeged, but in proportion to the population, the most people order such dishes in Pécs. Szeged is again at the top of the list of rural restaurants offering sausage as a separate dish. The order data also put an end to the rivalry between the sausages of Debrecen and Csaba. Debrecen clearly emerged as the winner among foodora users in this battle, with twice as many sausage restaurants in the county.
