The messages of old photos
János Eszterbauer is a successful businessman and winemaker, a well-known figure in the Szekszárd wine region. His family has been making wine since 1746. Eszterbauer wines have an exemplary marketing concept: the company puts old family photos on the wine labels, pictures of János Eszterbauer’s grandparents, great grandparents, friends and workers who lived many years ago. On the back labels buyers can always find the stories behind the photos. They make about 200,000 bottles of wine a year and from this 60,000 are rosé wines. They grow grapes on 30 hectares of land and buy a little as well, especially for making rosés. At the moment the winery is busy building a terrace restaurant on the roof of their cellar. Mr Eszterbauer is the president of the Guild of Szekszárd Winemakers. The region’s winemakers cooperate with each other and for instance they were present at the Buda Castle Wine Festival with a collective stand. A uniform Szekszárd bottle is also being made, in which they will sell the wines typical of the region: Kadarka, Blaunfrankisch, premium Bikavér. In the near future Szekszárd winemakers will also put a Szekszárd Grand Vin on the market.
