György Raskó: without Ukrainian corn, there will be a huge shortage of corn on the domestic market
Agricultural economist and farmer György Raskó shared his experiences with the ban on his social media page.
“It was exactly a week ago that I called the manager of one of our feed suppliers, telling him to listen now that for half a year they have also mixed Ukrainian corn in the feed, which is much cheaper than the domestic one, maybe you could reduce the price of the feed (pig feed). Tell me if there’s anything in it, it’s really cheaper to buy from Ukraine, but you know, when the expensive Hungarian vintage stock runs out. Okay, but when? Well, we are already at the end, and approx. from June. A few days later, the news comes that Ukrainian corn has been put on the banned list. Wow, that’s not good news. I call the person: what will happen now? Well, the old price will remain. Until the harvest in November, we need to buy hundreds of thousands of tons of corn somewhere. You can’t get it from the country, because it’s not of the right quality, it’s just toxic. So what should we feed from June?”
- he asks the question.
