Bóly Plc. has developed a technology for breeding cattle capable of producing premium quality milk.
Bóly Plc. and the Kaposvár Campus of the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences (MATE) have developed a breeding technology for cattle capable of producing premium quality milk, using nearly 800 million forints of development funds.

According to a statement sent to MTI by Bóly Plc., a member of the Bonafarm Group, with the non-refundable support of 775 million forints from the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH), a dairy cattle herd was created that produces only type A2 milk. According to some international research, such milk is easier to digest, so it may play an increasingly important role in nutrition in the future, they indicated. During the project, experts have examined the genetic stock of more than 3,500 cows in recent years in order to find high-producing, but only A2-type milk. With these valuable individuals, embryos suitable for the purpose were produced through targeted matings and laboratory fertilization. This established a gene bank that, on the one hand, contributes to the genetic development of Bóly Plc.’s dairy farm in line with its goals, and on the other hand, serves as a gene reserve, they noted.
MATE experts have developed an experimental system that enables the genetic pre-selection of embryos
This method will accelerate the expansion of the A2 milk-producing stock in the future and contribute to the creation of a healthy, high-genetic value, long-term sustainable population. The milk production and milk composition of animals created with modern breeding technology and possessing the desired genetic characteristics were examined in the project at the dairy farm of Bóly Plc. under operating conditions. During the cooperation, the animal husbandry and breeding technologies were also determined, which can be used to economically produce high-quality A2 milk – the announcement reads. Bóly Plc., which employs almost 600 people, previously stated to MTI that the program made it possible to produce new, commercially usable breeding animals, reproductive materials and raw milk, which could help increase sales and profitability in the future, thus further developing the company and preserving jobs. Bóly Plc., which deals with arable crop production, pig and dairy cattle breeding, and game management, achieved a net sales revenue of 28.55 billion forints and a profit of 1.01 billion forints in 2024, while a year earlier it had a revenue of 29.14 billion forints and a profit of 959 million forints.
