Positive expectations about the end of the year in online retail
In e-commerce the Christmas season starts with the so-called Black Friday, held at the end of November. This year three quarters of Hungary’s online shops take part in the campaign: this is the day when for 24 hours certain goods – it is usually kept a secret which products until the last moment – are available with a 20-50 percent or even bigger discount. Black Friday definitely popularises online shopping and this period is a very busy time for delivery companies, posing a great challenge to the stores’ IT systems and customer service staff too. Online retailers are hopeful about the Christmas season and they have reported a good performance from the 3rd quarter of 2015. In the 4th quarter online orders quadruple every year and the number of products in warehouses doubles. For instance in the last three months of 2015 Extreme Digital triples the number of its warehouse staff, employing nearly 50 new sales assistants and customer service workers too.
