Gáborné Pölöskei said at the awarding ceremony of the National Chamber of Agricultural Economy (NAK) for young people that today in agriculture they work with machines, tools and technologies that did not exist before, but without them and modern knowledge it is not possible to run a good and efficient sector. The knowledge, the latest knowledge, is now with the young people, and the young people competing in various competitions can call themselves lucky, since they already know that they want to choose an area of agriculture from the twenty-four branches of vocational training, he said. He emphasized that in order to cultivate a craft well, we now need the various competencies – cooperation, creativity, digital knowledge – that were perhaps not so important before. According to the deputy state secretary, vocational training, which was renewed in both its methodology and content four years ago, had to change for this.
István Jakab, the vice-president of the Parliament and the president of the National Association of Hungarian Farmers’ Unions and Farmers’ Cooperatives (Magosz), spoke about how the Parliament is always open to young people, and in this building all decisions have been made and will be made that help prepare the youth. It is necessary to adapt to the changes, social and economic transformations of the world, just as it is necessary to adapt to climate change, and for this we need prepared, professional young people with great knowledge and innovative skills – he said. Addressing the awardees, he said: “you are the ones in agriculture who already use digital systems, you will be the controllers of data-based farming”, which is a huge challenge.
Erika Székely, NAK’s vocational training and consultancy director, spoke about how the Ministry of Agriculture’s important task is to develop rural areas, to improve the quality of life of the people living there, and to ensure that those living in the countryside can find prosperity for themselves and their families in the agricultural sector. Hungary’s natural endowments and the role of agriculture are invaluable, an important role in agriculture is assigned to the education of the future generation, especially in the area of agricultural education – he emphasized. For this, he continued, it is essential to have specialists equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge, and the role of the maintainers of agricultural schools is to ensure the country’s competitiveness in the field of agriculture as well. “The success of Hungarian agricultural workers brings with it the success of Hungarian agriculture, and high-quality professional work has rank and honor,” asserted Erika Székely.
