Plzeň TechTower: a stronghold of talent and innovation
In the Czech city of Plzeň, a historic brewery has been transformed into a technology park, now known as the TechTower. The city that used to be the birthplace of the first light lager beer and the word “robot” is now innovating again with the TechTower project.
Innovation and community space
TechTower aims to develop talent and inspire businesses. Tomáš Cholinský, head of the Information Technology Directorate, said that they organize around 80 events throughout the year, including idea competitions and festivals, aimed at high school and university students.
An exemplary festival
The We Innovate Pilsen Festival, held on June 7th and 8th, is an excellent example of what TechTower has to offer. The festival provided an opportunity for innovators and startups like CIE to present their developments, such as virtual reality for use in education.
Supporting infrastructure
Márk Bárdy, CEO of CIE, emphasized that TechTower provides them with excellent conditions, including modern offices and facilities, as well as strong connections between the city and universities. This allows their customers to visit them, saving time and money.
European funding
The cost of the TechTower project is almost EUR 26 million, of which EUR 7 million comes from the European Cohesion Policy. The 10,000-square-meter building includes a multi-functional hall, offices, community workspaces and a 10-meter-deep water tank where rescuers can test their equipment.
