If it’s October, then it’s the Kürtőskalács Festival, but October is also the month of fighting breast cancer – we are now happily combining these two at the 12th Kürtőskalács Festival at the Zoo feat Pink Gastro Campaign!

“The special thing about the festival is that for the third year in a row, it will be hosted by the Budapest Botanical Garden and Zoo, which will be completely covered with stands making Kürtőskalács and pink Kürtőskalács and desserts, and even We are already including the Biodóm area! We are waiting for visitors with 10 chimney cake stands: in addition to traditional chimney cakes, special flavors are offered at the Ízbombák stand, there will be 100% gluten- and dairy-free chimney cake at two locations, but it is also made from vegan ingredients. The Édes Mackó chimney cake confectionary is waiting for you at two locations with wonderful chimney cake desserts, you can find the Kürtős Fondülde – where chimney cakes are served sliced and seasoned with various toppings – in the Biodóm area, but the big success is being made at KÜRTŐSBON – filled dough chimney cake at two locations, and the Do-It-Yourself workshop will also be located in the Crafts Courtyard. And the charitable part of it all is that every chimney cake bakery will have a pink product: Raspberry Kürtőskalács, Raspberry Kürtős Creamy, Raspberry Kürtősbon, Raspberry Kürtős Fondü, which “by purchasing and from its price we can support the Breast Cancer Info Association”

says András Tünde, the main organizer of the Kürtőskalács Festival – who himself was involved in this matter, and even has a colleague who makes kürtőskalács who fortunately survived breast cancer, so they consider the awareness raising very important!

In Hungary, every tenth (!!!) woman will be affected during her lifetime and every year we lose 2000 (!) women, mothers, sisters, wives (among others) due to late detection. We would like to draw the attention of even more women (and men, because in the best case scenario every man has a woman, mother, sister, friend) to the importance of mammography screenings and the fact that breast cancer detected in time can be cured in a very good proportion. And if we can raise awareness of this in at least 12 places within the framework of the Kürtőskalács Festival, and if even one woman goes for a screening test as a result, or if we have broken the taboo, fear, and anxiety related to the disease in a few people, then it will be worth going to the Kürtőskalács Festival!

– says Borbála Halom, president of the Breast Cancer Awareness Association!

“Since we have a young girl in our close circle of friends who is currently struggling with this disease, fortunately she is coming out of it – we were also deeply touched by the topic and we feel the depth, importance and responsibility of this awareness campaign. This journey is terribly mentally taxing for both the patient and those around them – that is why it is important to let them know that they are not alone, that the disease is not something to be ashamed of, that they dare to take action, to ask for help, because there are organizations that can help!

– says actor Krisztián Gombos, who spoke about this in a choked voice at the press conference.

“A visit to the zoo is also mentally refreshing, the smell of the chimney cake, the closeness of the animals and the experience programs provided by the Festival all contribute to making it a truly enjoyable, together-filled, family and friendly event, which the Zoo proudly provides space for. After all, The zoo, which has been operating for 159 years, has always been committed to social responsibility, and the charitable mission of the 12th Kürtőskalács Festival is also in line with this endeavor! And as a novelty, our farmers’ craft fair (honey, lavender products, cheeses, syrups, etc.) will be added to this on Sunday, which will be found at the Biodóm catwalk –

– says Zoltán Hanga, spokesperson for the Budapest Zoo.
In addition to charity, we are preparing 3 stages and 6 program locations, which we will set up near the kürtőskalács stands, to make queuing for the kürtőskalács more bearable with acoustic concerts and special program elements! The main role will once again be played by children’s programs in the Crafts Courtyard: storytellers, puppet theater, craft classes will alternate, but there will also be animal programs. Face painting, traveling game library, and nerds can challenge adults on a giant mill game!
And just a few names of the performers: on the Pálmaház stage: Andris Jász saxophone, DJ. Selektor Emka, Kriszti Bakó and Attila Geier, Péter Galambos will entertain in turns, while on the Biodóm stage: Éva Bolba trio, Canarro, MACSKIN and Erik Járinka, Ádám Kustan, Kontraszt and many more performers will make the festival atmospheric, while László Járási will entertain in the Édes Mackó corner,” says András Tünde, the founder of the festival, about the plans.
