Greenhouse gas emissions of Procter & Gamble
Climate change, which is the large-scale and long-term shift of the earth’s weather patterns and temperatures, is one of the most defining issues that humanity is currently facing. Since the Industrial Revolution, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have increased dramatically, increasing global temperatures by over 1 degree Celsius in comparison to pre-industrial times. Greenhouse gas emissions are gases that trap heat within earth’s atmosphere by absorbing energy and preventing heat from escaping into space. There are various types of gases including carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases that each impact climate change at varying levels – known as global warming potential. The effect of each gas depends on concentration of the gas in the air, length of time the gas remains in the atmosphere, and the strength of its effects on the atmosphere.
