PET Kupa: The middle section of the Tisza was cleared of more than 900 bags of waste
In the 70-kilometer section of the Közé-Tisza between Kisköre and Szolnok, the river was cleaned for days in the XI. Environmentalists of the Tisza PET Cup freed the river and its floodplain from 937 bags, about 6.1 tons of waste – the Natureszétéfilm.hu Association, the organizer of the Tisza PET Cup, announced in a statement to MTI on Tuesday.
Thanks to the successful interventions in the source region, the successful waste collection campaigns in the Upper Tisza in previous years, and the waste collection capacity of the Kisköre dam, the litter pickers encountered less waste in the floodplain forests, they wrote.
Kisköre’s role in the region has been indispensable in the river cleaning work for years. On the water side, the Kiskörei Weir, which is 50 years old this year, has become one of the key tools for stopping waste: at the weir, waste is continuously lifted ashore throughout the year. The River Rescue Center of the spectacularly developing small circles of the PET Cup – in addition to spreading knowledge – takes care of the professional selection of waste. The Central Tisza Water Administration (KÖTIVIZIG) has been doing a lot for years to improve the waste situation with its expertise, the announcement states.
