Customers can save money and time by using the online price monitor
Since the first of July, the price of observed foodstuffs has decreased by an average of almost 7 percent thanks to the online price monitor, which may have a moderating effect on food inflation of 1.8 percentage points, Balázs Csaba Rigó pointed out in the morning program of the M1 news channel.
The president of the Economic Competition Authority pointed out that the average prices of products decreased in 53 product categories out of 62 product categories. As he said: the retail chains switched to a higher level of competition, essentially switching to daily price reductions. The free price monitor not only ensures the comparability of the prices of individual products for consumers, but also effectively contributes to increasing market competition, reducing prices, and thereby curbing inflation.
The price monitoring site operated by the Economic Competition Office was launched on the first of July. The prices of food belonging to 62 product groups of six retail chains, in their approximately 1,200 stores, can be found in the system available at argyelo.gvh.hu, recalled Csaba Balázs Rigó, president of the Economic Competition Authority, in the morning program of the M1 news channel.
The president of GVH emphasized that the experiences of the first three weeks after the launch are encouraging: Hungarian people are extremely interested in the site, many use the price monitor. Since its launch, the site has had more than 650,000 unique visitors, who have performed nearly 45 million downloads and 250,000 keyword searches.
