Peer-to-peer retail’s influence on the FMCG sector
Digital peer-to-peer (P2P) retail is conquering Europe at an ever-increasing speed – reported Eurostat. Consumers more and more frequently use services that make the selling and buying of products or services directly between individuals possible, e.g. Airbnb, Uber, etc. IGD’s experts are of the opinion that the P2P trend may have great influence on the retail sector too. The big question is: Are FMCG businesses ready for the current rapid technological development?
IGD’s experts forecast that not today’s biggest market players will implement the expected great changes: IT firms which plan to introduce new ‘habits’ via technological solutions have already appeared in the FMCG sector, e.g. Meal Sharing, OLIO, etc. It is needless to say that P2P retail and other new forms of shopping will bring new payment systems into our daily lives. Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin are used more often than before. However, it is difficult to imagine that these payment systems will completely replace banknotes and coins. //
