Rossmann launches wine in paper bottle
Rossmann has become the first major retailer in Germany to introduce a Weißburgunder (pinot blanc) wine in an innovative paper bottle, marking a bold step toward sustainability.
The new packaging reduces CO₂ emissions by 84% compared to traditional glass bottles and weighs just 82 grams, i.w. five times lighter than glass, Lebensmittelpraxis reports.
The bottle consists of an inner plastic pouch and an outer shell made of 94% recycled cardboard. Available now in over 2,200 Rossmann stores, the packaging is not only eco-friendly but also practical: it’s shatterproof and easily recyclable via paper and plastic waste bins.
The wine comes from sunny vineyards in Baden, southwestern Germany, and is produced by the Fair & Green-certified Achkarren wine cooperative. Rossmann describes the Weißburgunder as dry, fruit-forward, and well-balanced in flavor—and suitable for vegans.
“It took some courage to offer high-quality German wine in such a new format,” said Solveig Grohne, Rossmann’s wine category manager. The launch was made possible through collaboration with their long-standing partner, Achkarren.
