Enough panic about the toxin
Everyone should do their job responsibly on the corn market, don’t stir up tension, and then the toxin situation will be handled in the case of this year’s crop as well as in 2022. This is true for processors, traders, producers and the authorities alike – stated Zsolt Feldman, the state secretary responsible for agriculture and rural development.

A unilateral communication campaign was launched in order to influence market processes around the toxin contamination of this year’s corn crop. A similar situation arose in 2022, but at the same time, the market situation at that time was also completely resolved. Fungal infections caused by heat stress are unfortunately becoming a regular feature of crop cultivation, but the consequences of this can and should be managed with a responsible attitude of producers and processors, and in the future, all producers must pay even more attention to possible prevention, emphasized the state secretary.
From the point of view of consumers, the most important thing is that the legislation in force and the controls guarantee in all cases that no contaminated goods above the limit value can enter food and feed
Manufacturing companies must carry out regular self-inspections and, in the event of a problem or suspicion, notify the authority. Toxin binders can be used during the use of corn, corn farmers should measure it themselves, attention must be paid to separating clean and contaminated items, the right storage technique is very important. If some processors do not find suitable domestic raw materials in sufficient quantities, they have the option of importing them by reporting to the authorities, but our position regarding imports from Ukraine has not changed so far, we do not plan to lift the ban on imports from there until an EU-level solution is reached problem – highlighted Zsolt Feldman.
