A call for tenders helps small businesses selling ornamental plants
The Ministry of Agriculture wants to help the development of small businesses dealing in the trade of ornamental plants and flowers with a call for tenders with a budget of HUF 1.6 billion, Zsolt Feldman, State Secretary responsible for agriculture and rural development, announced at the TulipGarden Balaton ornamental gardening season opening event on Thursday.

Zsolt Feldman explained that the Ministry of Agriculture has already made available to ornamental gardeners the support schemes that helped fruit and vegetable gardens to purchase machinery or technology and to implement investments.
The state secretary indicated that small businesses selling flowers and ornamental plants play an important role in the sector, as they deliver the product to consumers
In addition to the committed support of the Ministry of Agriculture, the measure aimed at supporting ornamental horticulture small businesses with less than 40% of agricultural or 50% less than forestry sales revenue was included as a new element in the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (KAP). Those concerned will soon be able to apply for funds with a frame amount of 1.6 billion. Support options cover activities related to ornamental plant trade or green space management. It will be possible to apply for the creation, development, and modernization of buildings, but the purchase of new machines and tools and technologies related to the trade in ornamental plants and green space management, or the use of information and communication technologies, will be supported. The TulipGarden in Gzőrősgyörö is an innovative and spectacular example of how value can be created in an area that was otherwise hardly used before – noted Zsolt Feldman, who says that achieving a large added value in a small area with a good idea can also be an opportunity for other agricultural producers to achieve more standing, their economy in maintaining its profitability.
Zoltán Mátrai, the owner-founder of TulipGarden, said that the first TulipGarden opened in Szőlősgyörök in 2019, and now the number of flower gardens of the franchise system based on the “take it yourself” concept has expanded to 10 locations. Tens of thousands of bulbs are planted per tulip garden, which means that up to half a million bulbs can bloom.
