The naming of the avatar project of the Heim Pál National Pediatric Institute has been completed: the name PALKÓ received the most votes among the proposals received. According to the hospital, many different ideas were submitted for the name – from more serious candidates to puns – and in the end, PALKÓ proved to be the most popular because it is friendly, easy to remember, and fits the spirit of the institute.

PALKÓ is a digital avatar developed specifically for children arriving at the hospital and recovering there. Its task is to explain in children’s language, in a clear way, what will happen during an examination or treatment, reduce fear and uncertainty, and help them feel like active participants in their recovery. According to the plans, PALKÓ will also have a “companion” role in hospital orientation: it will introduce the wards, outpatient departments, the operation of the laboratory, and can even prepare the children for surgeries.

The institute emphasized that the success of the naming also shows how important it is for them to involve the community – parents, children and staff. According to the hospital, children will be able to meet PALKÓ in more and more areas of hospital care in the near future.
