Bottle return 2025: this is how the system works in Hungary
The DRS will continue to provide consumers with the opportunity to contribute to environmental protection and sustainable waste management in 2025. Through further development of the system and increased consumer awareness, recycling is becoming increasingly efficient. The article by Pénzcentrum explains how the return process works, what bottles can be returned, and how much money we can get back for deposit-based packaging.
Returning bottles is a simple and quick process aimed at reducing environmental impact. Consumers can return deposit-based packaging at thousands of designated return points, also known as RePont stations, across the country. The return process is as follows:
- Preparing bottles: The packaging to be returned must be clean and with the cap attached.
- Finding a return point: The nearest RePont station can be found on the official website of MOHU or its mobile application.
- Scan and drop off: The machines scan the bottle barcode and then collect and store the packaging.
- Deposit refund: Consumers can choose to receive the amount in cash, as a voucher or via digital balance.
Where can bottles be redeemed?
Bottle redemption will be available nationwide in 2025 at the following locations:
Supermarkets and larger grocery stores
- Gas stations
- Designated waste yards
- MOHU redemption centers
- Automated redemption stations
