Tourists spend more carefully this year
Compared to preliminary expectations, the resumption of tourism in the world after the first waves of the coronavirus epidemic was faster, the UN tourism organization stated in its report published on Tuesday, which is cited by the G7. Last year, more than 900 million people traveled abroad for tourism purposes, which is double the number in 2021.
It is true that even 900 million is only 63 percent of the number before the epidemic, i.e. in 2019, and there are also very significant regional differences behind this. Based on passenger numbers, international tourism in the Middle East has already recovered by 83 percent, and Europe is not far behind with its 80 percent indicator, which in the case of our continent means 585 million arriving tourists.
Africa and America remained at 65 percent compared to 2019, while Asia and Oceania proved to be the big laggards, where only 22 percent of the previous number was reached. The main reason for this is that the restrictions related to the epidemic have been in place here for the longest time, especially in China.
